BELIEFS: This being, also known as "He-Who-Has-No-Name" is a sinister, alien being that has slept for eons. The Nameless One awoke at some point, heralding the disappearance of the dwarven city of Vulcan (which was mining deep within Crypt) and the descent of the old mine that is now taken over by puddings. The mining operations disrupted the magical wards that keep the Nameless One asleep, known as the Elder Sign. The Elder Sign was created by the Other Gods to keep the Nameless One slumbering for eternity. But the Elder Sign was partially disrupted, and the Nameless One achieved some semblance of consciousness. It can't get around the Elder Sign by manifesting itself, but needs to be carried out. It has gotten around the Elder Sign by crafting itself into Fellblades and grafting its life essence to Gifted Ones, who arguably are choosing to sacrifice their own souls to the Nameless One rather than the Nameless One possessing them. Thus it uses these "feelers" to gain in power when it will be able to finally free itself. The proposed number of total souls is 666,666,666,666,666,666. The Nameless One is not known by many, but like Sikkar it was a creator of beings and was worshipped at the peak of its power -- a peak which few truly remember now. It is responsible for the creation of the Argoi, the Puddings, the Yaag-nesh (and their servitors, the Shadows), the Myconoids, the Bloodworms, and the Slaadi. The Vampire race is relatively recent -- they are also believed to be a "workaround" for the Nameless One to gain power. Barring vampires, most of the other races are alien, if not insane by normal standards, and have access to ancient knowledge that they occasionally reveal in flashes of horrible plans and machinations, all ultimately to bring back their Mad God. They believe that the Retroverse is an illusion, and by the Nameless One's awakening, they will unveil the truth -- the horrible truth of how the universe REALLY operates and its mind-blasting true nature. WORSHIPPERS: The Nameless One supplies its followers with many tools. The Fallen, the most prominent and selective of the Nameless One's minions, purportedly hold part of the Nameless One's soul in their foul blades. They devote themselves to sucking the life out of all beings, in an attempt to destroy them permanently. PRIMARY PLANET: The Nameless One's power is strongest on Crypt. There are many theories as to why this is the case, including the belief that it is the very planet that imprisons the Nameless One's essence -- Fallen answer such questions with their blades. AVATAR: Like Sikkar, the Nameless One has attempted to sway Immortals to his side in the past, offering all manner of dark desires in return for their allegiance. Several powerful Immortals have seemed to take sides in the Godswar, only to ultimately server their own side. Many Fallen believe any Immortal taking sides with Sikkar or the Nameless One are ultimately plants who will undermine any efforts to free the Gods at the last moment. No one knows for sure, and the Immortals aren't telling |
