NOTE: RetroMUD, Inc. does NOT HAVE TO ACCEPT YOUR DONATION!!!
Nor does RetroMUD have to supply a reason for why it does not.

NOTE #2: YOU MUST REGISTER TO RECEIVE YOUR PES (help register).

* We are now officially known as RETROMUD. That's right, all
in caps, just like that, cause I followed the example in the book
and now we're stuck that way. >:P It does mean, however, that when
it comes to corporations, ownership, or whatever, RETROMUD is now
on the map. A hell of a lot more than I can say for all the other
MUDs out there.

* We now have our own domain name (retromud.org).

1) RetroMUD is a non-profit entity, but it has not been given
the rights by the government to retain money without being taxed
and being subjected to laws that will give everybody headaches
(because we exist virtually, an argument could be made for the
MUD belonging to whomever owns the land where the computer
currently resides). Below is an excerpt from the rejection letter:

"...you provide no structured educational program. Rather, you provide
an environment for participants who wish to play a complex game.
Such an activity serves primarily recreational or social purposes.
The existence of a substantial recreational or social purpose precludes
exemption under section 501(c)(3) of the Code; see Better Business
Bureau v. U.S.

Accordingly, based on all the facts and circumstances, we conclude that
you do not qualify for recognition of exemption under section 501(c)(3)
of the Code. Contributions to you are not deductible under section 170
and you are required to file federal income tax returns."

As a result, and until we can hire an accountant to do our taxes,
RetroMUD only performs non-monetary duties. In other words,
RetroMUD can oversee what goes on with the game known as RetroMUD,
but it cannot pay for it nor receive payment for it. Note that RetroMUD's
other financial duties for existence (like taxes for merely existing,
Delaware
tax, etc.) are taken care of by the Company Corporation.

I will continue to accept cash gifts and we are still a non-profit
organization, we simply do not have section(c) status. This is
why all "donations" are considered cash gifts and not
donations -- legally, they're not. This is also why no one can send
a cash gift of over $1,000 to any one person.

As a result, the form has changed significantly -- we're back to
using my name instead of Retro's.

2) Note, however, that we cannot GUARANTEE this, even as a non-profit
organization, to protect our own interests we cannot make any promises.
Otherwise it's not much of a donation, and then becomes a service (and
thus is taxable).

3 through 8) We no longer receive postal mail donations. We only accept
online
donations via PayPal, see below.

9) If your character is force-reincarnated for any offense, you must wait
THREE
MONTHS prior to your donation being accepted. Please feel free NOT to
donate
during this time.

10) You cannot donate on behalf of someone else in exchange for a service
(i.e.,
gold, equipment, castle) in the game. This is a nukeable offense.

11) You CAN donate for other people as a gift. But the nature of a gift
means y
ou get nothing in return. So make sure it's really a gift. You can do
this onc
e a year.

NOTE: DO NOT SEND CASH!!!
