Upon selecting your primary guild (see help primary guild) you will be allowed to advance level 20 in that guild. After you reach level 14 in a primary guild, you are allowed access to a secondary guild (help secondary guild), although finishing your primary guild first is highly recommended. You may wish to look into taking a secondary guild that is involved in what is called a 'path of power.' Mages may join guilds to enhance certain elemental damage types; Abjurers, enhanced protection spell categories; Bards, a path to enhance the magic of their music; Templars and Cultists, paths to help their resurrection spells; and Psionicists, a defensive and offensive path to hone their skills of the mind. In addition to these Primary-specific guild paths, there are also weapon specialization paths (see help weapon paths) that can be joined by various secondary guilds. For example, upon reaching level 20 in the Mage guild, Pyrexia, the mage who enjoys using his fire based spells, may wish to start down the path of the Pyromancer. He could then take the Pyromancer guild as his 'secondary' which would provide, in addition to its own benefits, a whole path of tertiary guilds for him to take that would further enhance his flame-based and magical powers. For more information on the possible secondary and tertiary guilds you can join, look at the 'choices' command (help choices) and the 'paths' command (help paths) to plan your future. You can gain further insight by typing 'info' in the joining rooms of any guilds or looking them up under the 'Guilds' section of the RetroMUD website (www.retromud.org). You may also wish not to take secondary guilds with paths for your primary guild. For instance, Merlin, the mage, may wish to join 'Telemancer' for its beneficial spells instead of an Elemental secondary guild. His future choices will be more limited, but the telemancer guild is quite helpful already. If Merlin later decides that he also wants to take the path of the Pyromancer, he may want to look into a 'double secondary' wish (help wishes, help full wishes) as a possibility. Before you choose a path, be sure to look far into the tertiary guilds you will be joining, so you can be sure you will be happy with what you will receive. SEE ALSO: help wished pathing |
