A monk may take a secondary guild. If the monk completes a secondary guild they may take terts as normal. (help paths of power) However, monks have another option when choosing guilds. At level 20, a monk has the option to immediately begin taking tertiary guilds rather than taking any secondaries at all. At level 21 and beyond a monk can choose from any of the style-based terts in addition to secondary guilds. These special terts are 9-level guilds which allow the monk to use a new style of martial arts. Each style is either a hard form or soft form martial art (help martial arts). -=-Soft Form Terts ---------------------------- Ba gua Cobra Touch Glima Lee Kwan Choo Lightning Dwarf Ninjitsu Tae kwon do Tien hsueh -=-Hard Form Terts ---------------------------- Bringer of blood Dragon claw Mantis Mo chi kung fu Moo gi gong Thunderfist Tiger claw White crane Zanji shinjinen-ryu If a monk learns two new forms in the same style, the monk may begin taking a path dedicated to improving their chosen style. Forms may be learned either from 9-level tert guilds OR from a secondary. Starting with Shikan-ken for soft styles or Buraindo kobushi for hard styles, the paths are designed to improve all of the monk's performances when using their chosen style. Example 1: Felix reaches level 20 and decides he wants to focus on soft styles. He takes 9 levels of Glima and 9 levels of Cobra Touch. At level 38, he can now begin the soft style path at Shikan-ken. Example 2: Felicia reaches level 20 and decides she wants to focus on weapon styles. She takes 14 levels of Shih, earning the mo chi kung fu skill. She also completes 9 levels of Mantis. At level 43 she can now begin the hard path with Buraindo kobushi. Example 3: After reaching level 20 Bob takes 9 levels of Glima and 9 levels of Mantis. He is NOT eligible to take either the soft path or hard path guilds because he does not have 2 forms in the approrpiate style. He will need to complete one more guild in either style before beginning on the path. See also: HELP MARTIAL ART PATHS |
