Trade

Help for: trade

Introduction
-----~------
Trade is an expansion of a merchant's role in a party. In a trading
party the merchant holds a key role.

Trade is conducted between the 6 planets of the Retroverse by means
of a trade wagon. These wagons are prepared (slowly) by traders at
the major city gates and gathering places.

When a wagon is ready to leave a merchant may take it from the
trader and attempt to drive it to the destination stipulated by the
trader. The merchant will share in the profit of the wagon when
it successfully arives at its destination.

Mechanics
----~----
Your skill in "hire caravan" influences the amount that the trader
will entrust to you. This skill also protects your goods in transit
which improves your profit when you arrive. Having high status
in the merchant council ensures that traders respect you and give
you a fair price.

A merchant with the appropriate skill and the approval of her peers
in the merchant council may obtain a wagon from a trader by using
the command: trade where "amount" is an integer value of
gold coins.

Instructions for driving the wagon are provided in its description.
The description will also contain reminders about its value and
destination, in case you forget.

Merchants will most likely require the services of a party of hardy
adventurers to safeguard their precious cargo. Likewise any party
that wants to engage in trading will have to employ the services of
a trustworthy merchant to make this possible.

Bandits!
---~----
Traders are closely watched by groups of brigands who plot ambushes
on the caravans as they travel. Obviously the more a caravan is
worth the tougher the brigands are who will attack it. There are
however a limited supply of brigands available to assault a caravan
at any given time.

Meta-game notes
------~--------
Driving the wagon may seem a little cumbersome. Creating an alias
to shortcut a single command is acceptable. Creating an alias to
run the entire path is not acceptable (and you will discover it to
be outright dangerous).

You can't attack traders. Don't try to bypass this (you will die).
