Becoming a slayer title is the result of repeated attacks on an intelligent being that belongs to some sort of culture. Word gets out that you, the murderer who perpetrates these attacks, is killing these poor people, and eventually these individuals will either 1) attack you on sight, or 2) flee in terror. The rate that you will become known as a "slayer" is based on your level: a fantastically powerful demigod will get notoriety much faster for slaughtering the citizens of Keystone City than a lowly kobold thief. Conversely, the level of the people being slain also determines how fast this happens: kobolds expect heavy losses, because that's a kobold way of life, but kill just two titans in a rare titan community and word gets out. Whether or not these beings flee or attack is based on level as well. Creatures who know they obviously don't have a chance against a being of such awesome power will run for their lives. Creatures who think they may have a fighting chance will attack the slayer. Slayer titles decrease by killing other things and leaving the poor people alone for awhile. The more one kills of another group of people, the less the oppressed slayees will assume that the character is on a genocidal quest to destroy them. It pays to find more than one area to adventure in. Note that animals, mindless blobs, etc., do not have cultures or a means of communication, and don't know and probably don't care that they are being slaughtered en masse, thus these rules do not apply to them.
