Dying

A Gifted One who is "killed" is merely out of phase, in a ghost-like form,
until a more powerful force brings the spirit back into existence. Only
Gifted Ones can do this, and many others can die permanently. The Gods
often use their powers to raise "dead" Gifted Ones through the use of
their followers or their altars. This is Sikkar's favorite tactic. He
often sends his Templars out to "bribe" those out of phase into
worshipping him in return for their corporeal forms. The Immortals can
also bring back Gifted Ones from the dead but rarely choose to do so.

Immortals cannot die. That's why they're Immortal. The only way an
Immortal can suffer harm is if he chooses to do so or another Immortal
attacks him or her. Note that this has happened perhaps twice in recorded
history, and both times the Immortals in question were thrown out of the
Circle.

Gods cannot die, nor can they be attacked. Gods cannot physically manifest
themselves as Immortals can - they are permanently 'Out of Phase.' This is
part of why the Gods continually strive to escape the RetroMud Universe.

Other beings you encounter can die, but they do not go Out of Phase. They
disappear to form again later. This is the work of the Immortals, who seek
to restore all things to their original state. Beings who die this way
never remember the events leading to their deaths.

Gifted Ones who die take penalties to exp earned in the area where they
died. Resurrection spells can lessen these penalties but never eliminate
them. For more information, see: HELP DIE

Dying can produce several side effects when you return to the mortal
realm. No matter how you return, there will always be an experience
penalty, but other effects can occur. Cumulative scars are the most
significant factor in determining the chance of other penalties, which
include losing stats or training in a skill or spell. Players can regain
lost stats via the Surgery or Brain Surgery skill, but they must retrain
missing skills and spells. Be warned that a fumbled resurrection spell
will always induce complications. Further so, a fumbled Surgery procedure
will result in permanently lost stats. Make sure you know the risks
involved!
