Rpp

RP points (RPP) are a measure of how much role-playing
you do in game or through the RP newsgroup.

How RPPs are awarded:
* Players with sufficient rpp are able to use the 'vote' option for
the 'roleplay' command (HELP ROLEPLAY). With this command, they
may vote for other roleplayers they believe have done a good job.
Characters may vote up to once per day and may not vote for
themselves or for the same person twice in a week. Points are
awarded every Saturday, with each player earning one point for every
vote they received.

Benefits:
* Characters have two kinds of benefits, from having a certain amount
of RPPs, and spending them like PEs. These wishes are no
longer available with PEs, they can only be bought with RPPs. This
means they are gained on merit -- and no, RPPs can NOT be bought!
* RPPs can be spent on:
- 5 RPP - Extra plan line (can be taken repeatedly)
- 10 RPP - Typo message
- 10 RPP - Colored Fellblade name
- 10 RPP - Colored Paladin Shield name
- 10 RPP - Colored lute name
- 10 RPP - Colored necromancer shard
- 20 RPP - Inform message upon entering
- 20 RPP - Colored channel messages
- 20 RPP - Channel title
- 30 RPP - Different speaking verbs
- 50 RPP - Spell named after you

* Once a character has accumulated a minimum
number of RPPs, he or she gains access to certain abilities as long as he
or she sustains that minimum number of RPPs:
- 5 RPP - Spread rumors
- 5 RPP - Background command
- 5 RPP - Vote for other roleplayers
- 5 RPP - Freeform emotes
- 20 RPP - Access to the Roleplay Custom Eq Shops
- 30 RPP - Access to the Random EQ Customization Shop
- 50 RPP - Extra apprentice
- 50 RPP - Access to the Advanced Roleplay Custom Eq Shop
- 100 RPP - Freeform emotes without the "*"
- 250 RPP - Extra apprentice
- 500 RPP - Extra apprentice
- 750 RPP - Extra apprentice
- 1000 RPP - Extra apprentice

* RPPs may be factored into certain functions that are considered
role-playing in nature, specifically Guild and Race leadership roles.
* RPPs will be included in guilds that are more role-playing in nature.
Fighters probably don't have much to worry about, but "civilized"
guilds who interact with society (Sentinels, Merchants) will find
they can use their RPPs to influence the game.
RPP effect on Championship, by Guild
---------------------------------------
HIGH: Bard, Druid, Assassin, Necromancer, Jomsviking
MEDIUM: Abjurer, Alchemist, Biomancer, Merchant
LOW: All others.

* Players with high RPPs are considered trustworthy by the coding
staff. We monitor those players less, let them have more freedom,
and assume they have displayed a certain level of maturity that they
will not abuse the powers they earned through hard work.
* Players with the most RPPs are ranked on the Top Roleplayers chart,
which is visible on the website and at select locations in the game.
Ranking on the chart is measured by total RPP earned, regardless of
how much may have been spent on benefits in the past.

Downsides:
* Roleplayers can also be penalized RPPs! This is
a rare, but inevitable, situation for some folks. Abuse RPP-based
powers and other game rules at your own peril!
* Chat is still an out of character (OOC) channel, and Retro is
also an OOC channel but is for information specifically related
to RetroMUD. World channels are strictly IC only!
* Use of the ic (HELP IC) and ooc (HELP OOC) to identify yourself
as a roleplayer, as well as when you are presently acting in
character. Roleplaying in a MUD that is not purely IC can be
difficult, but use of the ic and ooc commands, the rp newsgroup,
world channels, and the "rp" goal for seek (HELP SEEK) can be
a huge help in making your roleplaying experience not only
possible, but worthwhile.

The purpose of RPPs is to legitimately recognize role-playing
as a worthy pursuit, as worthy as killing monsters all day over
and over. This does not in any way mean that hack-and-slash
types are bad or will be penalized. It does mean that role-players
will be given a legitimate rewards for spending their time
and energy NOT killing monsters, which will allow them further
opportunities, which may not be open to the players who spend
all day on mindless killing.
