Retro channels

NOTE: Until you enter the game, you will NOT be permitted to use
channels, aside from mentor!

This is due to the unfortunate circumstance of several annoying
people, who ruin it for everybody. If you can't use a channel, pick a
race and guild, enter the game, and you will be given channel
privileges.

Channels are meant to be used to communicate your thoughts to another
player. To use a channel, type the name of your channel (e.g., retro)
and then what you want to say. For example:

retro Hi everyone!

Would show up as:

Talien [retro]: Hi everyone!

To see who is listening to a channel, type "channel who". To see what
channels are available to you, type "channels". Type the name of the
channel to toggle it on/off.

Each channel has a specific purpose. All channels, with the exception
of world channels, are OOC (out of character).

SALES:
The sales channel is self-explanatory - it's used for those who want
to buy or sell something on the MUD - this does not mean the sale or
purchase of real life items! It can also be used for the purpose of
partying (i.e., I want to party with a tank, I'll pay him a lot of
money), or for other services involving payment. In general, if
there's an exchange of services involved, put it on sales.

ALERT:
Alert channel is used for emergencies involving imminent danger to any
character on the MUD, and is accessible to sentinels and unconscious
players. Alert chanel is NOT to be used for what you happen to think
is important. Alerts are often used to announce when your character is
unconscious and about to die. Heals/revives/summons are generally
asked/screamed for on this channel.

RETRO:
Retro channel is for issues about the MUD. Here, immortals and mortals
alike discuss anything involving Retro. It is not, on the other hand,
a place to discuss your personal life, other MUDs, the weather, how
much you like giraffes, etc. Retro is sometimes used for rules
discussions, though that might be more pertinent on mentor.

MENTOR:
Mentor channel is used for asking questions about the MUD. If you are
having trouble figuring out a command or how things work here, this is
the channel to ask on. Mentor is not for asking for solutions to
quests (help quests). Please refrain from sarcastic or misleading
answers on this channel, as this channel is for helping out other
players.

CHAT:
Chat channel is the catch all. Here, you can talk about anything you
want, say whatever you want, and exercise your freedom of speech.
However, there are limitations - slandering any person of any type,
using extremely foul language, being generally offensive and annoying,
will get you removed.

PARTY:
Party channel, which can only be accessed if you're in a party, is a
private channel. Similar to a party line, what you say on there and
who you choose to be in your party, is your own business. If you find
one of your party members to be offensive, by all means leave the
party.

SHOUT:
This isn't quite a channel per se, but all characters on a particular
planet can hear it. It costs 25 ep per shout. Shouting means everyone
on that planet can hear what you say. This is very tempting to be used
by those who get frustrated and angry about something or at someone.
Don't fall into that temptation. Shouting should be used sparingly.
Shouting insults, etc., over and over will result in your loss of
channel privileges.

GUILD:
Each primary guild also has its own channel. These channels are
activated by typing "[your guild] on." See "[your guild] help" for
more commands for your guild channel.

WORLD CHANNELS:
World channels (help world channels) are accessible to players who
have and maintain 20 rpp (help rpp). These channels are the only
channels that require you to be IC (in character).

CHANNEL ABUSE:
These channels are not necessary. Speaking to other players can
usually be done (albeit much more inconveniently) through tells. If
you abuse any channel by using it for the wrong reason, first you will
be warned and then you may lose all channel privileges (either through
a wizard chatban or a sentinel "sentcurse").

Instances of channel abuse include, but are not limited to:
-Using profanities. While we recognize that most of our players are
adults here, or are purporting to be adults, we have made the
decision that public channels should remain largely clear of
language deemed inappropriate for a business/family environment.
Exceptions have been made, within reason, for fflchat and
politics channels as long as the swearing does not become
excessive or involve directly insulting other players.
-Trolling. This is largely handled in 'help trolling.'
-Personal attacks/insults. If you can't say something nice to
another player, best to put that person on ignore and avoid him.
