Experience points

Experience points are a measure of the knowledge, experience, and know
how a character receives from dealing with life. Experience is earned
primarily through killing (HELP KILL) or exploring (HELP EXPLORE),
though experience can also be earned from some quests and through other
means.

Different races accumulate experience points at different rates (HELP
EXPERIENCE RATE), and certain wishes can alter the rate at which
you gain experience points (HELP FULL WISHES). Completing level
quests can help reduce the cost in experience points required for
gaining levels (HELP ADVANCE, HELP LQ).

Experience point rates can be penalized on death for the area you died
in (HELP DEATH), as the ordeal of dying is severe enough to create
lasting trauma for the one who experiences it. Various means of returning
from death will affect the size of the penalty incurred during this
process (HELP DIE). The most traumatizing of these (and the one
that imposes the biggest penalty) is praying at an altar in the judgement
fields (HELP PRAY, HELP JUDGEMENT FIELDS), while a smaller penalty is
afforded via a resurrection spell (HELP SPELL RESURRECTION, HELP SPELL
EVIL RESURRECTION) performed by either a templar (HELP TEMPLAR GUILD)
or cultist (HELP CULTIST GUILD) respectively.

To take advantage of experience points, they must be spent, used to
advance the character's level (HELP ADVANCEMENT), train their
skills (HELP TRAINING), or study magical spells (HELP STUDYING).

Once spent, experience points can only be recovered via reincarnation
(HELP REINCARNATION).
