Creation

This document explains part of the character
creation suite. The character creation suite
is 3 rooms laid out in the following manner :

          .----.
          |    |
          |    |  Gender/Description room
          `-++-'
            ||
          .-++-.
          |    |
          |    |  Race selection room
          `-++-'
            ||
          .-++-.
          |    |
          |    |  Guild selection room
          `----'

In the guild room, you choose what primary guild
you will be a member of. This will determine
what skills and spells you have available to you
for your first twenty levels (assuming you don't
take a secondary guild early. That is not something
you need to worry about now, though you can get
more information about secondary guilds by typing
help secondary guild). This, along with your
choice of race, will define who you are and what
you can do in Retromud.

There are nineteen primary guilds in Retromud.
They are:

Abjurer
Alchemist
Bard
Biomancer
Cultist
Druid
Fallen
Fighter
Hand
Jomsviking
Mage
Merchant
Monk
Necromancer
Paladin
Psionicist
Ranger
Sentinel
Templar

For more information about any of these guilds,
type info (ie, for information about the
mage guild, type info mage). More detailed information
about each guild, along with suggestions on playing in
that guild, can be read by typing help guild
(ie, for help on the mage guild, type help guild mage).

If you have any questions that the help and info files
don't seem to cover, you can also ask on the mentor channel.
Type mentor - there are always other,
more experienced players listening who will be happy
to help you choose the right guild for you.

More experienced players may wish to consider what
secondary and tertiary guilds will be available to members
of each primary guild. While this is not generally
necessary before choosing a primary guild (as it is rare
for a player to choose a primary guild based on secondary
or tertiary guilds), some players like to plan out the
entire advancement of their character before creating that
character. To find out what other guilds you can choose
after advancing in your primary guild, simply type
choices . If you do not understand this
information, it is best you not worry about it at this
stage. By the time you are ready to choose a secondary
guild, it should make perfect sense to you.

Read over information on each of the guilds, and once you
have decided which one you wish to join, move to the race
room (one north of the guild room) before doing anything
else. It is a good idea to determine race and guild before
actually selecting either, in case you find a race that
makes you change your mind about what guild you will play.
Once you have determined race and guild, return to the
guild room. For more information on choosing a race, type
help raceroom.

Once you are ready to choose your guild, type select .
Then you can move north to the raceroom to choose a race, and
from there to head north again to the creation room to finish
out your character.

Good luck, and above all have fun on Retromud.
