Exploring

Learn your way around. Rushing out and killing things is a waste of time if you don't know where you are or what to do. Every city has a map function. Use the map within the city walls, and walk around. Examine the citizens, see what they're doing to get your bearings. Remember, depending on the primary guild you picked, you could be on one of six worlds. Important Note
Don't leave the city!
Important Note
AVOID WIELDING WEAPONS IN FRONT OF MONSTERS.
Intelligent beings will react to you walking into a room with your sword drawn. They will take your actions to be hostile and attack with the assumption you are there to kill them. The occasional guard may warn you to put your weapons away, and some weapons that aren't particularly deadly may be ignored (the lower the weapon class of your weapon, the less the monster cares about you wielding it), but err on the side of caution and unwield your weapons when you're walking around or even before you kill the monster so you have the element of surprise.
Use the consider skill if you have it, and although it sounds cruel, determine who you can and cannot beat up. Also note what equipment they have. If a young boy is walking around with a dagger, he may be worth targeting over a larger warrior who has nothing on him, especially if you have a weapon skill in dagger. Don't KILL anything yet, learn the map and learn the areas.
