How do I know if a guild is spiritual, hermetic, or non-magical?
When visiting the guild page on the website, you will see a line similar to 'This is a non-magical guild.' directly below the guild's description.

What kind of race do I need to join a spiritual magic guild?
It is recommended that you chose a race that has at least a 60% maximum in the related spell category. Therefore, you would need to choose a race that had a spritual spell maximum of at least 60% to join a guild that uses spiritual magic.

What if my racial skill maximum is not 100%? Every guild, regardless of magical or not, uses skills. Most races have skill maxes above 80%, which allows you to train to proficiency. You will also find that as you advance, each guild level offers certain bonuses to different skill and spell categories. While it is only possible for you to train a skill to your skill maximum, it is also possible to recieve bonuses to certain skills that would increase them beyond what you have trained them to.

What guilds should I not join if I have no limbs?
Although you are theoretically able to join any primary guild no matter which race you are, there are certain races which would not do well in certain guilds. As a race with no limbs you will not be able to wield weapons of any kind. Therefore, guilds that rely heavily or solely on combat would not be a good match. You should stay away from Fighter, Sentinel, Ranger, Fallen, Jomsviking, and Cultist. Also note that some guilds have unique items which enhance their power. Bards, for instance, use an instrument which can increase their stats and must be wielded in order to gain the benefit of speedsong (a skill which increases the speed of their spell casting). While it is more than possible to be a useful bard without limbs, you would not have access to the enhanced abilities of an instrument.

How important is it for my racial stat potential to match the guild's recommend statistics?
Each guild has a recommended potential for certain stats. Fighters, for instance, would do well to possess a high strength and high constitution, while mages would do well to possess a high intellegence and moderate wisdom. It is not necessary to chose a race with matching potential, as your guild choices will greatly increase many desired statistics, but it will result in slightly higher stat totals since both your guild and race bonuses will be working together.

What effects do the guild's spiritual and hermetic bulk have?
The spiritual and hermetic bulk of a guild is very important to you as a character. Bulk in itself is a very complex issue and will take some time to get accustomed to. One aspect of bulk is your guild's magical restrictions. While it will not effect you in a non-magical guild, it will effect you greatly in any magical guild. To best explain, let's consider an example:   The Mage guild has both a minimal spiritual and hermetic bulk. Minimal is equal to bulk 1. In this scenerio, the mage would incur no penalties for wearing any equipment which is bulk 1 or lower (bulk can be as low as 0 or as high as 4).
A mage can, in fact, wear equipment which is higher than bulk 1 but he/she will incur a penalty for each slot that is covered in bulk higher than 1. For instance, if a mage were wearing armbands which were bulk 2 and covered the left and right upper arms, he/she would incur an 8% reduction in all of her/his hermetic spells (4% penalty for each slot covered in bulk 2). The penalty per slot increases as the bulk increases. This way, the armor your character is able to wear is not restricted, but your effectiveness as a mage would be greatly hindered. For greater detail on bulks and penalties, see help bulk.

What is the most important thing to remember when chosing a race/guild combo?
Though there are many things to consider when selected a race/guild combo, there are a few main things to remember:
  1. Be sure your spell maximum matches the category of magic your guild uses.
  2. Be sure you have limbs if you are joining a melee guild.
  3. Be sure your racial aligment restrictions do not conflict your guild's alignment.
Follow those three steps and you will at least be able to work effectively as a guild member. Match up other racial attributes in order to tweak and achieve your full power.
